CSNews 2008 Mid-Term Forecast Study
The economic slowdown caused by the "double whammy of home price declines and oil price escalation" ý predicted by the Convenience Store News Industry Forecast Study in January ý will depress sales growth of some key convenience store product categories by nearly 50 percent this year compared with original forecasts completed last November.
Whatýs more, c-stores will pump less motor fuels this year for the first time since 2000, due to higher than anticipated gas prices. In addition, higher than projected taxes on cigarettes will result in a slightly fewer number of cartons sold by c-stores this year ý as CSNews revises its projection downward from 1.19 billion cartons to 1.18 billion.
The 2008 Midterm Forecast Study, which projects sales for five c-store product categories that together represent 88 percent of industry sales, updates the forecasts from the CSNews Industry Forecast Study, conducted in November 2007 and released publicly in January. This 29-page report also includes lots of never before published data, including first-ever regional forecasts in malt beverages. |
