Current volatility surrounding the gasoline category has led to some interesting shifts in the results of the 2006 Convenience Store News Security Study of c-store and gasoline retailers. Given the way gasoline pricing has escalated, up an average of 21 percent in the last year, it should come as no surprise that gas drive-offs without paying top the list of security problems for c-store retailers. Employee theft of merchandise, the top-ranked problem in our previous study, dropped to second overall, although it remained the most serious problem among chain store retailers.
